Is the River Dome Right for You? Because this experience is unlike anything else, it isn't the perfect fit for everyone—and that's intentional. The River Dome floats on the Wisconsin River and is designed for guests who are comfortable around water and excited by a unique outdoor experience. To reach the dome, you'll enjoy a scenic walk of approximately 1,000 feet (about three minutes) from the parking area down to our private dock. Vehicles are not permitted at the waterfront, so you'll need to carry your personal belongings to the dome or use one of our pull wagons. We recommend packing light, much like you would for a weekend glamping trip. The dome includes a clean, private camp-style toilet for overnight convenience. Full modern restroom and shower facilities are available in our main bathhouse, located approximately a three-minute walk up the hill. If you're looking for a traditional hotel room, this probably isn't your place. If you're looking for an unforgettable experience you'll talk about for years, welcome to the River Dome. Because of the unique location of the River Dome, this is not a self check-in accommodation. Unlike a traditional vacation rental, every River Dome stay begins with a personal welcome. We'll meet you upon arrival, guide you to your floating retreat, familiarize you with the property, and ensure you're comfortable before we leave you to enjoy your stay. For this reason, check-in is available between 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM only. Please plan your travel accordingly, as we are unable to accommodate late arrivals. We appreciate your understanding, as this personalized check-in helps ensure every guest enjoys a safe, relaxing, and memorable stay on the river.

Here, you'll wake up to birdsong instead of traffic, watch bald eagles soar over the river, and spend your evenings beneath some of the darkest skies in the area. Our property borders the scenic sandstone cliffs and river that made Wisconsin Dells famous, creating a setting that feels worlds away from the crowds. Despite the seclusion, you're only about five minutes from downtown restaurants, shops, attractions, wineries, golf courses, state parks, and everything Wisconsin Dells has to offer. Spend the day exploring waterparks, taking a boat tour through the iconic sandstone gorges, hiking nearby trails, or enjoying a local supper club before returning to the quiet of your private retreat. Many of our guests tell us their favorite part of staying at Sandstone is that they don't have to choose between adventure and relaxation. Sandstone Rustic Retreat is conveniently located just minutes from downtown Wisconsin Dells, making it easy to explore local restaurants, attractions, grocery stores, wineries, golf courses, and outdoor recreation. Once you're here, many guests choose to leave the hustle behind and simply enjoy everything the property has to offer. Walk our wooded trails, relax by the river, paddle a kayak, gather around the campfire, or spend your evening watching the sunset from your private dome. For River Dome guests, please note that parking is located near the main entrance of the property. From there, you'll enjoy a scenic walk of approximately 1,000 feet (about three minutes) down to the private dock where your floating dome awaits. We recommend packing in soft-sided luggage or duffel bags for the easiest walk to the dome. Uber and Lyft service is available in Wisconsin Dells, though availability can be limited during late evenings or slower seasons. Taxis and rideshare services are generally sufficient for trips into town if you prefer not to drive.
